So Whats New With Dr. Boydston?

A lot of exciting and not so exciting things have transpired since the last publication of the newsletter. February is the month of birthdays for our family.

My only daughter Ella, who is 99% princess and 1% stereotypical red-headed spit-fire turned 5, and my oldest son Clayton, my virtual twin, turned 7.

With 4 children in our home, it is safe to assume that their is never a dull moment. Soccer, T-ball, school, playgroups... we are in the middle of it, and absolutely loving it. Their little brains, bodies, and character are rapidly chaning and developing, and it is exciting to play that all important role of dad.

The month of February also brought a scare into our family. My brother-in-law was admitted to the hospital for what was suppossed to be a routine surgery, and a medical miscue led to the pucture of his lung. For a full week he was in intensive care, under full anesthesia and on a ventilator while we waited for his lung to heal. It took an experimental drug to finally bring him out.

We are thankful that he is doing well now but we had moments where we were very worried about the outcome and possible side effects of being under anesthesia for so long.

It is experiences like these that cause us to pause and reflect on our lives. I have extreme gratitude for my family and for the mentors that pushed and helped mold me into what I am today. I am extremely grateful that the Boydston Institute has gone from a mission and vision of serving patients in a different way... a better way... to a reality. It is like living a dream only it is better than I had originally envisioned.

To be able to apply my knowledge to help our practice members heal and get well... I cannot express enough gratitude for that opportunity. I want to publically thank the members of my practice for the opportunity to play the role that I do.

Our members are the smart and knowledgeable ones who seek us out because they know a one-size fits all approach doesn't work, that a pill is not going to change their underlying physiological and neurological shifts, and seek our care because of our whole person approach. So to those of you reading this who are members of our practice, THANK YOU FOR BEING WHO YOU ARE!

Be Solutions Oriented Not Problem Oriented

Often I am asked by members of my practice and interested readers of this newletter and my other publications, "How did the concept of the Boydston Institute begin... why do you do things so radically different?"

Here at the Boydston Institute we are all about looking at the Big Picture and creating solutions for our members not just the temporary patching up of symptoms. My attitude for always looking for a solution, never giving up, was passed down from my father in a most unusual way...

My father was by far was the most influential person in my life. He passed down wisdom and knowledge in ways that I didn't always understand while I was being tutored in my youth... but his teaching style has served me and those who come into our solutions programs immensely.

Throughout my childhood I would come to my father with problems, challenges and concerns... sometimes serious... othertimes just petty complaints. When you feel wronged, or slighted, or just frustrated it is nice to go to someone we know and trust and just unload what we are feeling. Usually we do this with the hopes that they will tell us we are right, or that we are justified for feeling the way we do.

It makes us feel better to have someone agree with our positions and complaints... we often seek these people out in our lives and cling to them because they will tell us what we want to hear instead of what we need to hear.

Dad was not that person to just tell you what you wanted to hear. The times that I came to him looking to have someone agree with me... when I was sure I was right about whatever I was complaining to him about... it was then that he would disagree with me and turn it around, or make me take a step back and see the situation in a new light. He was a master of it, and at the time he was tutoring me in this way I would often get angry that he wouldn't just agree and tell me what I wanted to hear.

In time I stopped trying to get him to shift into my perspective, instead I began to reflexively and instintictively take a step back and look at everything from a new angle whenever I was faced with a challenge. I stoped seeing problems and started seeing solutions.

I stopped seeing challenges as roadblocks or obstacles and began to look for solutions whenever so called problems arised. This object lesson passed down from my wise father now permeates every aspect of what we do here at the Boydston Institute.

It is the reason our members seek out our treatment programs from literally all over the world. They know we are going to take a step back and find solutions where everyone else only saw problems... it is a completely different paradigm.

I urge you to adopt this attitude in your life. Don't see problems, look for the solutions where everyone else is only seeing problems. It can be adopted into most areas of our life... family, work, hobbies, and of course the health of your body.

A defining characteristic of our most successful practice members, the ones who get the best outcomes to their chronic health problems, is they do not give up. They continue to seek solutions.

I can't tell you the number of people who have said they had virtually given up on ever feeling healthy and vibrant again and had almost lost all hope. If they had completely given up and continued to see only the problem and quit looking for a solution they would still be in misery. Their solutions oriented attitude moved them to us, and it was exactly what they needed.

If you are one of those solutions oriented people you will find that you fit in perfect here and feel right at home with our Institute's unique culture.

Although we do not always have openings in our programs and not everyone makes it through our diagnostic screening process, if you are reading this and you know you are someone that needs to be in one of our treatment programs call Celia at (559) 297-9218 and tell her you read the newsletter and you want to apply to be in one of our treatment programs. Tell her you are ready to take the first step.
